798ci hd si and 998c hd si using same transducer
« on: June 18, 2014, 01:21:26 PM »
i may have posted this in the wrong area....sorry if i did. my question is can i link my 798ci hd si to my new 998c hd si to use the same transducer. i only want the 798 for lake maps and speed at the console and already have a high speed ducer added on via y cable for it, works great. i want to put the 998 at the console also for side image only. can i use the same ducer or do i need to install the new 1 that came with the 998, and if i need to install the new 1, how far does it need to be away from the 798 transducer. if this has already been answered some where i appologize, i searched the posts but found nothing on this. thanks for any help

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums ice.

Nope, good area for this question to be posted as it covers a few different models.

If your 798ci HD Si unit is using the Compact Side Imaging (CSi) that came with it, I would opt to replace it with the larger HDSi transducer that came with the 998c HD Si unit.  I would also route all the transducers to the 998 unit and have them share that sonar information with the 798 unit via an Ethernet connection.  Doing so will allow the 898 unit use the 800kHz sonar that the 798 cannot use plus you will only have to mount the one transducer (probably in the same place as the CSi transducer is now located).

If your 798 unit is instead running an HDSi transducer I would just leave it and still route the transducers to the 898 unit and share the sonar information with the 798 unit via an Ethernet connection.  There would be no need to install the new HDSi transducer that came with your 898 unit.

What type of fishing do you do? Do you fish off the bow at all? I have the 898 at the console and 798 on the bow and love it. But I do appreciate what you are doing to keep maps and 2d sonar on one unit, and all SI on the other.

Bass fishing mostly, crappie when i can find em. I have a 958 di on the bow that was linked back to my 798 but i changed that until i can save some $$$ to get the hub to connect all 3 together. I got the units all mounted and wired up over the week...now to mount the transducer. Think im going to put it on the jackplate and keep my old ducer mounted for a back up.
