Welcome to the Forum
« on: March 31, 2009, 06:32:03 AM »
I wanted to welcome everyone to the SideImagingSoft.com Humminbird Forums.  I hope everyone will take a look around and check out some of the cool new features.  I wanted a place for members to come and have their own personal place to post images, chat with friends and just hangout.

The main goal of the forum is to discuss Humminbird Side Imaging Sonar, but I am willing to add other groups down in the Other Interest section at the bottom of the forum.  You will also notice I have set up a personal pages section.  This will be open to Charter Members who wish to have their own forum space.  You can have it open to the public or moderate it and decide who can post in your pages.

Here are a few of the added features I have installed:

Dedicated Image Gallery
Customizeable Profile
YouTube Videos in Post
Full Image View in Post (no thumbnails)
PDF and TXT file upload to post
Calendar and Event List
Chat Room
Member Map
Lots of New Forum categories
and more....

I hope you guys enjoy the forum and look forward to seeing you here.

Thanks,

Robert Gecy

Rotorfixer,

I have been pretty busy getting the site up and running, but when I have some a few minutes I will post some images of the ROV I built a few years ago.

Hey RGecy, Great looking site. Can't wait to see the blanks start to fill in. Also did I read some place that you are putting a second transducer on your boat. I think you will love it. I had to put a second on my deep V, as I couldn't  get a clear shot to the left no matter what I did. With dual ducers I'm getting good not great but good SI at up 20 mph and great at under 10 mph. Second best thing I have put on the boat, first was the 987. Thanks for the great site Frank

Hi Robert,

Just a thought on the Unofficial Humminbird Side Imaging Forum they have a button to "view Unanswered Posts"  I was surprised on how much I have missed eveh thought I try to keep up with everything.  Is there a way to view unanswered posts on this site?

Look to the right of your greeting from the board. You will see how many unread posts and new replies to your posts.

Hi George,
just choose either "show unread posts since your last visit" or "show new replies to your posts".
Then you go into "extras" in the tool bar above the site and choose in the internet options "actual site" as your starting site.
Everytime you're going into the internet now, you'll have the site you chose in the first step.

HI robert...

I enjoyed talking with you yesterday. Thank you for taking my call.  Here is a photo of my newly repaired and outfitted dive boat. It's a perfect size for me. Bought the cabin for 600.00$ and installed it myself. The cabin was off of a 24' Privateer, so I had to trim a bit from inside the rails, but as you can see, it fits perfectly!! Like it was made for the 22' model.

Anyway, I'm trying to navigate my way through your Humminbird forum and, as I said yesterday, the Humminbird people were terrific to deal with when my boat sank june of 2008. ( :'( :'( ) Couldn't ask for better. They helped me out big time and I owe it to you. Thanks again. I look forward to chatting with you and upgrading my 997c-SI for the downward imaging.

Safe diving,
Wayne Godfrey

Welcome to the forum Wayne!

Wow, if you haven't said that the cabin wasn't there initially, I would have thought the boat came with it right from the factory.  Nice craftsmanship, respect!

Hope you'll like the forum as I do. I found a lot of help and advice here when I started out sidescanning last year.

Hello,

This site is really great for all Humminbird users worldwide!  I just joined and I am excited about being a part of this family.  I recently purchased the 998c to go along with my 798c.  The 998 is being installed this week.  I am looking forward to getting on the water, taking some pics, and posting them for viewing.  Once again, nice site. 8)

I am new to the cite I want to say hello to everyone,  I am also new to Humminbird, got a 1198 coming next week. I am sure I will have some questions and from what I see  there is plenty of knowledgeable people here. Maybe someday I will be able to help somebody but as of right now I cant even help myself. I am thinking about buying a dvd on this unit. is it a good idea or not?

Yes, reference manuals and help video can be a big aid in the learning process. Which dvd are you considering? Some are worth while and some are not...
If you have not printed out your cd manual you might want to consider that. Print shops dont charge all that much and the paper version is much easier to reference than the disk...,

Before spending your money on a DVD, try looking through this web site for videos and "How-To's" for your unit.  There are also several videos on the Humminbird U-tube page as well as on Doug Vahrenburg's U-tube page.

After looking around this site I dont think I would need a DVD, this site is loaded with information,  I guess the hardst part of the whole thing is reading the images correctly. :)

You still might want to print sections of the manual for reference on the lake..
Getting to know the unit is more than just pushing buttons.
If you dont have a maual (cd) I can probably send you one..in a file..

You can also call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks and see if they can send you a printed version of the manual.  They have some of these on hand, so you will have to call to find out if they have one for the 1198 unit or not.

Was this for the 1197 or the 1198 Chuck?
I just called and asked for the 1198 manual and was told that the part number of the printed manual was 531840-1 and that we had some.

I have the manual for both of my Humminbirds downloaded on my smart phone.  Regardless if there is reception or not on the lake I have them available that way.

Greg, that was for the 1198. I am thinking now that when I called was during the time when HB was considering no printed manuals.
I had not tried after that as I downloaded the disk and had a print shop make a manual.
Also I cant remember at that time if HB was only shipping disks with new units..
CS was a bit in the dark also.
Glad to hear that manuals in hard copy are available..
I kind of like the disk also in that you can select what to print.
Smart phone are taking over.  Now to get the video out of the sonar to a smart phone for remote viewing and help with the readings..

Hey, first of all let me say I really like the site, you did a bang up job. I have a minor problem. When I do routine maintenance on my PC I lose my log in information. It says "Have rod will travel" does not exist. I then do the "forgot password" thing, get a new password and then get back in. Do you know why this happens and how can I correct it. Thanks. PS, on all the other sites I visit, when I go there I just click on login and my user name and password come up, I then click log in and all is fine. Thanks
