Title: Serial Numbers
Post by: 234rick on December 15, 2012, 11:31:29 AM
I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I have searched & can't find any info. Could someone tell me where I can find out how to decipher serial numbers so I can find out when a unit was built & sold app.  Thanks  Rick

(Posted by Greg on another forum...)

Year, Month, Day plus the line it was tested on and the number unit it was that was tested at that station for that day. Two examples here; the first is for a unit produced before 2010 and the second is after 2010:

A.) 5030305-0046 Manufactured on March 3rd, 2005. 46th unit on test station 5.
This uses the YMMDDTT-XXXX format where Y = Year, MM = Month, DD = Date, TT = Test Station, XXXX = sequential number unit tested on the station

B.) 10021501-0079 Manufactured February 15th, 2010. 79th unit on test station 1.
Same format as above except for two places used to show the year.

The 798’s (798c Si model) units first showed up in the 2009 catalogs, so the first ones were probably made in late 2008.
