Ipilot link question
« on: January 13, 2016, 11:24:46 AM »
I'm in the process of buying a new boat and starting the process of researching electronics and such.  My current rig has a 898 CI HD combo with a 788 CI HD combo with a Terrova I-pilot link.  When I bought this rig three years ago I got sucked into the I-pilot link because I thought the features it had would really come in handy.  What I didn't realize was that it only worked with a lakemaster chip and LM at the time did not make a map chip for the NE region (PA, NY, NJ).  So I ended up spending hundreds more on an option I was not able to use.  Has any of that changed and will I-pilot link be work with another chip?  I run a Navionics plus chip in my 898 now and I'm happy with it.

iLink features of "Follow the Contour" only work with a LakeMaster card that is iLink compatible (it will say iPilot Link on the LakeMaster card) ...

You can check here to see if LakeMaster covers your specific lakes ...

Thank you - It looks like Lakemaster covers a lot of the lake I fish in the NE now.  Can anyone tell me if they are as accurate as Navionics?

Accuracy is a relative term, I believe.  I have the LM card for my two units and Navionics mobile on my phone.  They both show the lakes I fish but both are a little "off".  Both my units have "map offset" to change the position you are shown in but that option doesn't work with LM cards (although I found a workaround).

Both have what appears to be the same contours but are a little different from each other.  I can live with the imperfections of each one and since the LM card doesn't seem too inaccurate I haven't bought a Navionics card for my units.

I might add I recently got an I-pilot Link TM but haven't had a chance to mount it to the boat or use it on the water.  I am definitely looking forward to it, though.

I think the important part of Lakemaster is "Lakemaster surveyed HD lake" anything else is highly suspect. Have had standard definition(awful) LM survey HD (fantastic) The HD not done by LM is iffy. Bob
