Playback with Sonar "off"
« on: November 04, 2009, 06:32:21 PM »
While trying to review some recorded data in the house yesterday, I realized that you can not playback either sideimaging or tracks when the sonar is turned "off". I have an 1197 running the current 4.7 software and do not recall this being the case previously. Did the previous firmware versions disable all of the sonar screens when the sonar was turned off? Why doesn't the track run even if the sonar is off?

This would seem to make it imposible to review data in the house unless you have a spare transducer, or leave the sonar "on" even though a tranducer is not connected.

Am I missing something that should be obvious?

Thanks for any input,
Mike

Mike,
I'm not familiar with watching recordings at home on the unit itself, but I think it should be possible to start up the unit in Simulator Mode and watch your recordings at home. In Sim. Mode it's not necessary to have a transducer connected.
To get in Sim-mode just press the power button and then the menu button within the first three seconds during the start up process. In the start up menu is the Sim.-Mode option.

Greg or Robert, please correct, if I'm wrong here.

Harry,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think of that, but will give it a try. Thanks to Hummviewer it has been a while since I reviewed files on a unit off the boat. Perhaps that is what I had be doing previously without realizing it.

I was using the unit because I had managed to mix up some of my recordings and needed to get actual dates and times for the recording files, and I am not aware of if that information is available through Hummviewer yet.

Right on Harry.
You should also be able to connect up only the power cable and review a sonar recording by just letting the unit go into Simulator mode all by itself.  This way the Sonar is always on (even if you had it set to off when on the water).

If the unit does not detect an accessory it will not display the menus and views that are associated with it.  An example would be if it did not detect a transducer than it will not show any sonar related Views or menus.  No GPS Receiver detected will get you no Chart/Map Views and no GPS related menus.

Greg,

Then would you have any idea why you would not get a track playing back with the sonar "off", but you do with the sonar "on" when playing back a recording?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I do not know why the track would not show if all you did was set the Sonar menu to "Off" even though you still have a GPS connected.  It could have something to do with the Sonar Recordings being tied to the sonar itself.  I would have to talk with the Engineers on this but need to wait until after all the new units and software for the older units are released as they are quite busy.
