Title: 1197 updates - cannot go back to an older version

I have made all of the updates to my 1197 as they became available without problems.  I have just started fishing again after a long time.  My 1197 with update version 6.640 is not operating properly. 

This morning I tried reloading an older versions and even though the 1197 questions if a change is to be made, it will not make the software change. 

Am I doing something wrong?

George,
Make sure you have only one .bin file on your update disk.
Also, maybe try and download the update file again, checking the file
sizes before and after.
I'm assuming you kept your battery charged up while not fishing, and
nothing else about your boat wiring has changed.

Are you putting the SD card in an then starting the unit or are you starting the unit up completely and then inserting the SD card?

I had read some posts a while back recommending having the unit completely started up ....... I think something changed in the newer releases that requires that.

Yes you need to start the update on a up and running 1197 now.

So boot your 1197, perform a Restore Defaults, then insert the update SD card.

Thanks everyone

I tried everything suggested and finally got it right this morning. 

It appears that the system has to be up and running, restore defaults and then insert the card with the update.

Everything worked just fine. 

I have always had a practice of shutting electronics down before inserting any cards, but it no longer works with the humminbirds.
