what switchfire shows exactly in the screen
« on: December 22, 2015, 05:33:37 AM »
hello guys, i have been thinking about this and even whatching lots of videos on youtube and i dont have a clear answers, i hope you help to understand it clearly. for example, lets imagine that we are in a 100 deep water area, as we already know if we are just using the beam produces because of 200khz frecuency, our cone is 1/3 widder deep, so it is 33 feet, in that measurement we can have for example rocks, fish, small trees, taking into account that out beam, which is 33 feet wide, can does it read and appears on the screen? because for example the beam could cover for example 20 feet of a edge, and the rest of the cone other structure. what will appear on the screen? im just talking about single beam,
thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

If an object is in the beam, it will be displayed whatever distance it is from the transducer, but not deeper than the bottom  ..... That is all 2D sonar knows .... How far an object is from the transducer.....and it determines how deep the bottom return is.

The bottom return can get somewhat confused with a large steep drop since there is a large range of bottom returns in the sonar beam.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

the transducer produces a circle at the bottom, everything that is inside the circle will be shown in the screem? and if it located in the wider beam, it is showm but in a different color because of the signal received is weaker?

The 2d Sonar beam is an upside down cone shape ...

Any target inside that coverage will be painted on the display at "X" feet away from the xducer (shown as depth because the xducer is at the surface = 0ft deep) ...

The 200kHz 2d Sonar cone is 20° and covers 1/3 the water depth ...
The 83kHz   2d Sonar cone is 60° and cover 1 times the water depth ...

The Fish ID feature of the HB units will paint the Fish Icons on the 2d Sonar display (instead of arches) in a different color ...depending on which Sonar cone (200kHz or 83kHz) the target was located ...

*Orange Fish ID icons are targets located in the 200kHz 2d beam coverage ...
*Blue Fish ID icons are targets located in the 83kHz 2d beam coverage ...

thank you for yuor replies guys
one more question, and this is the last one, i understood what you explained me but, in the cone, is focused in an area with an inclination, i mean, one part of the beam is to a distance of the transducer and the oposite part of the beam is for example 6 foot deeper, how can i know that? because this inclination is not in the direction of the boat, this is like when the boat is moving close to an edge. the screen will show us that there is not change of deep but the beam has two part which are at different deeps.
thank you guys

i have attached what im trying to explain, the arrow indicates boatīs direcction, the circle is the beam, in this case, the screen wont shows us that the deep is changing, it will appears as a plane bottom, but as i tried to explain before, the beam has parts at differents deeps.
thank you again
