Lake master chips
« on: April 04, 2015, 06:33:39 PM »
I had an issue with my new 899ci hd nav combo unit. I had this on the water only 3 times. When I was going for the 4th time I went turn the unit on and it kept showing "unit shutting down" and just kept repeating that. I had to send this unit back to hummingbird. It had the latest software version on it. Needless to say I am not very happy. I also have a 859 di which when I went out this morning it came up with the hummingbird image and just stayed there. I took out the Lakemaster chip and restarted it. It is working now. Will the chips cause these issues.

This sounds more like a power issue ...

How old is the battery ...??

Are the units wired directly to the battery like HB recommends or does the power go thru a wiring harness of the boat ...??

Everything is brand new batteries, Ulterra, 859di & 899si battery charger, all of it. Not hooked directly to battery

I have heard of map chips creating issue at times ... Yet I don't think anyone knows why ...

You might try taking the map card out and then Restore Default ...

Is the 859 running the latest software ...??

I'm still concerned about the unit not wired directly to the battery ... This is such a common cause of issues in the forums ...there are just too many connections when wired thru the boat wiring harness to even effectively troubleshoot ...

Also ... Am I understanding correctly that the 899 is OK now since its return trip from HB ... ??

Yea I have rewired straight to battery no issues yet. I haven't got the 899 si back from them yet it just got there today. I asked for them to try and get it back to me by this Thursday so I will have it for my fishing trip. See how that goes.

Did you pay for expedited shipping when you shipped your 899 unit in?
