Unit won't allow old updates
« on: September 05, 2011, 02:35:52 PM »
I'm trying my hardest not to lose my mind.  I've done just about everything I can to get my 797c2si anywhere close to my 788ci.  I've sent it and the transducer to HB.  I've rewired it directly to the battery.  I've purchased a TS&S bracket not once, but twice!  Now, I can't even get my unit to accept old updates so I can update the unit back to 5.450.

I started my unit up, and restored defaults.  I turned the unit off, and tried the last two updates on separate cards.  It wouldn't take either of them.  The unit still says 5.450.  I figured it would go back to facotry settings after default, but it didn't.  It never gave me an option to update, nor did it change colors like it has in the past when it is updating.

What else can I do?  I'm at an end.  I feel I've spent enough money getting 788ci where it's at now.  No interference.  I just wish I got any use out of 797c2si.  At this point, it's an expensive GPS unit.

Eric,

Make sure you have the correct update for your specific unit.  Did you download from Humminbrid or from here?  Do you have the 797c2 or the 797c2i  (c2i has the Internal GPS reciever)?

Also make sure the update is not in a folder on the SD card.  It has to be in the root directory. Also make sure you do not have any other updates on the card, just the one file.

Good luck, let me know how it goes.

Robert, I have an external antenna, and the card only has one update on it.  It isn't in a folder.  It's a .bin file.  Is that correct?  This thing is driving me towards depression or drinking.

Thanks!

Eric

OK, I figured out hwat I did wrong Robert.  I had the 797c2i version of the update.  I unplugged my Interlink and updated the unit to the 4.770 first, then the 5.450 version.  No issues.  I'm hoping my old update was faulty, because I'm not seeing much of anything in the way of fish or structure with my SI.

Thanks for your help!

Eric
