Title: Unable Load Saved Tracks on 998cHD
Post by: wrktoomuch on April 12, 2013, 12:21:05 PM
I transfered all my nav data from my 997 to SD to 998. Everything is there but 2 saved tracks that were createsd for NJNY borders. They don't appear on the list of nav data. I have tried loading them from HBPC as GPX files, HT files but the new unit doesn't see them. Any ideas?

Hi WrkTooMuch,

I just udated my 998c-SI to version 6.61 of firmware and use version 4.3.8 of Humminbird PC on a Windows 8 computer and was able to load the track (border between New Jersey and NY) gpx file.

In my case, I did not have that track on my sonar, so it was loaded from GPX file to SD card with the latest version of Humminbird PC and then imported to the 998c-SI by inserting the SD card and accepting "one new track".

Perhaps try to see if you can make that work with your new sonar too?
(i.e. update to 6.61 firmware and then start from the GPX version of the track)

Here is a link to the old post with download-links for the GPX files:

(I used the file named: NJ-NY-Track.gpx)

OK Tore, I tried evrything you said, and no go. When I download your track or other tracks I've tried, it opens it in Notepad. Do I need to alter the file? I've tried dropping it in the Matrix folder, not dropping it in and it doesn't matter.

First save the gpx file to disk (NJ-NY-Track.gpx)
Start Humminbird PC and open the GPX file.
Right-click the gpx track node (NJ-NY-Track.gpx) from within Humminbird-PC and select "Upload" to transfer the track to your SD card.
Plug the SD card into your sonar and let the new track be loaded to sonar.

Tore
(You should not copy the gpx file to the SD card with windows explorer, and there should be no need to edit the gpx file with Notepad - unless you want to manually remove some points or make other edts)

When I try to the download the file , it opens in Notepad. When viewed in my downloads, it say its a GPX file. It is recognized as a GPX file in HBPC and if I view the contents of the SD card, but I when I put in the 998, it asks if I want to load data, but after says "no new data found". I believe its already there, but not readable.

On your sonar, have you tried the "Delete All Nav Data" command from the Navigation Menu Tab, and then try to insert the SD card with the NJ border track?

(...Assuming that you first make a backup of all the other waypoints, Saved Tracks & Routes!)

Bingo Tore!!!!! You're a genius. Thanks again for your help. Even though I'm too computer illiterate to use your software, I'm Paypaling you a donation.
