anyone heard of these guys?
« on: November 07, 2012, 10:32:00 AM »
has anyone ever heard of a site called saleoem.com

Just looking at the HB's and other supposedly original brand name items and everything is rediculously cheap.
Scam?
I cant find anything definite about them on the scam advisor site.
They take paypal as a payment option.
I know the old adage "if it sounds to good to be true....." but at the price of some of these it might be worth having a look at something?

I never heard of them.
You could check with the better business bureau and
do some internet searches on reviews.
Better safe than sorry.

They are overseas and don't take paypal unless you have already spent $4000.00 with them????.Whats Bank remittance anyway? They want your bank account number with a online function??? I wouldn't do it .

The old saying: If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.  It could be a scam.  It the price is ridiculously cheap as you say, then it is time to be very weary.

I would rather be safe then sorry, they just might send you a box with a brick in it.

Hi,
My Norton Security tool say's the site is "untested". That means that Norton does not recommend financial transactions w/ the site. Just an FYI.

im thinking its probably not a site that phishes for account details, credit card numbers etc, although thats quite possible, but i reckon its more of a oem copy scam.
They are probably cheap copies with inferior components coming from  smaller manufacturers utilising unskilled labour.
A chinese copy of an iphone or ipod is one thing but I dont know about a fishfinder???
i saw an iphone 4 copy the other day and apart from the buttons being on opposite sides it looked and felt identical.
Cant imagine it would operate like the real thing.
The chinese have come a long way with electronics in the last 10 or so years however and are actually putting out some okay stuff.
They have all the CNC and other machinery needed and can basically copy anything you give them.
Theres still a lot of smaller companies putting out poor quality stuff though.
Not enough info available on these guys to risk it.
Thanks for the sound advice guys.

I have sent a request to PayPal regarding Saleoem's payment terms, and also asked for their advice. I'll be back when/if I hear from them.

smart thinking Rickard.
I've never heard of a spending amount being required before paypal is accepted.
Doesnt sound right hey.
A few posters mentioned to be wary giving them bank acccount details but i dont really understand why? can someone explain please?
As far as i understood its only a name, account number and BSB or swift etc.
What can they do with that info apart from deposit funds?
I thought it was for the remittance payment system and it makes it easier, faster and cheaper for them?
I certainly wouldnt be giving any passwords or access to my account to anyone , lol.
If they are phishing then it could be added to other info like your credit card details, address, DOB etc and possibly sold or something but i cant really see what having the bank account details does for them?
They cant withdraw or access my funds with that info can they?.
Those type of details are easily available for most companies
So if im leaving myself open can someone explain how please?

If someone has your bank account number, and bank routing number,
they can electronically withdraw money directly from your bank account,
without anybody's permission.

NEVER give out any of your bank account information to anybody.

There are lots of low-life people out there that don't want to work, and
make a living at taking other people's money.

Don't make it easy for them.

mmm are you 100% sure about that buddy?
im far from an expert but i was pretty sure they need more than the account number and BSB to withdraw or transfer funds from an account?
A pin or password is still needed to to actually access and transfer funds etc.
Or ID and signature etc is needed if withdrawing across the counter at a branch.
Many business' have their account info on display in their payment details on thier website or ebay.
I suppose info such as banking details should be hidden as you never know what angle crooks are going to have a go from.
Thanks again for the sound advice :)

100% sure.
No password or pin is needed.

Have you ever set up automatic payments of bills directly from your bank account?
All they need is your bank account and routing number.
They don't ask for your pin or password.

Your entire bank account can be cleaned out in 1 second with an electronic
funds withdrawal.

If you've given out your bank information, I would highly recommend you
close your current account and open up a new one.

yes but thats setting up a payment system with companies that registered with the bank and are accountable.
An account number is not enough to access funds.
Anyhow, we'll agree to disagree on that point.  cheers

I don't know if the companies have to register with the bank or not.
I know when you set up automatic withdrawal, you just have to sign a
paper with the company that will be making the electronic withdrawals to
allow them to withdraw from your bank account.

You don't contact the bank and tell them to allow that company to take
money out.

What if you give a company permission to withdraw from your bank and
your bank has never heard of them, and they are not registered?

I think they can still take the money out of your account.

I don't know what the protection mechanism is, but anyone you have ever written a check to has your routing number and bank account number.

That being said.....I sure wouldn't give out that information to anyone for an internet purchase.

Well thats right, thats why i cant understand understand how just a number and bsb can access an account?
That info is to easily obtained.
with credit and debit cards they need the security code on the back of your card.
Anyhow, we all agree its safest not to give it out just in case.

I got a vague answer from PayPal, probably because I didn't select the most appropriate subject heading in the request menue. They referred me to another division that is specialized on issues with contract terms. I don't think it's worth the effort to pursue this further with PayPal. Saleoem may likely use PayPal when it fits their needs as they wish. PayPal was grateful to get info on how a web dealer sets up payment terms where PayPal is mentioned, though.
I have noticed almost all items in their shop are discontinued models. That may explain to some extent why prices are so low. However, dealing with discontinued items must make it very difficult to practice the dropship method for delivery, since most items must be out of stock at the factories. There are also exceptions where they offer the original recommended price which in some cases are four years old (Car navigation GPS systems) and very high.
I don't think they will drain your bank account, but they may keep the money for an item that you will never see. When the sites reputation gets bad enought they will just start up a new site that is a copy of the present site, but with new adress and a few corrections of names etc. in the texts. I think.
Rickard
