Rejoining AS GR50 cable?
« on: May 14, 2012, 12:36:11 AM »
Hi Guys,
Was rushing to finish installation of a dual battery system, along with cutting the cable tie holding the bundled AS GR50 cable, I cut the whole cable in 2!

I thought no probs, it has 3 internal wires, a red, green and white. So I soldered the 3 wires back together, but the 788ci shows the gps as disconnected.

After reading a few posts here, it seems the shielding/bare wire might be the earth. I got 12v between the red and green, so thought the green was the power earth and the white was the signal wire.

Can anyone confirm I need to rejoin the shielding wire as well? Any tips, some aluminum foil maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Glen.

There should have been a bare wire in there as well.  This is the ground for the GPS Receiver.  You should also rejoin the foil shielding as well.  The best way that I have found to do this is by stripping back the internal wires so that you have enough foil shielding to overlap the connection.
