Title: XTF Triton to XTF Humminbird
Post by: GM on January 25, 2011, 04:12:28 PM
Dear Users,

I'm interested in finding some software to convert XTF Triton (read with Yellowfin) to XTF Humminbird. I have these data and I would like to process them with MB-System. To do this, I need to convert first the XTF Triton to XTF Humminbird, and then the latter will be converted to FBT format through the MBSconverter software available in http://www.oceanecology.ca/MBSConverter.htm. (http://www.oceanecology.ca/MBSConverter.htm.)

I appreciate your time and attention to my question.

With Best Regards,

Gery

I dont think that humminbnird has an XTF file format. HB should be SON..........
Or maybe I am not clear what you want to end up with..

Robert, any ideas.....

Gery,

Welcome to the forum.  Sorry I wasn't able to respond to you PM about this yet.

What unit are you using to record the sonar data?  XTF is supposed to be a "universal" recording format.  The only difference between different units would usually be the header info.

Does MB systems only read Humminbird XTF files?

Robert

UPDATED:  What he is refering to would be the XTF file created by the SON2XTF converter released a few years ago.

OOK, I was thinking this...If we can narrow down his request we can probably point him to the correct converters....chuck

Dear Robert and Dear Chuck,

Thank you for your answers. I got these files from an imagenex 872 sss (XTF triton format?). I tried to read this data set with mbsystem but I couldn't, in fact, people in the MB forum told that this "XTF" data set is not supported (only XTF format Reson SeaBat 81XX). I don't know if this software can read Humminbird XTF files, though. I read several pages and I'm completely sure that this XTF imagenex (read by Yellowfin as Triton File XTF) format is not so standard. However, I do understand, based on what I read, that diverse XTF formats exist because of the provider of the sss system, ie. just to buy the corresponding reader/processing software.

The idea to convert this XTF Imagenex format to Humminbird XTF format is to use the MBconverter provided by the Oceanology group (http://www.oceanecology.ca/MBSConverter.htm (http://www.oceanecology.ca/MBSConverter.htm)). It reads Humminbird XTF files and put them as FBT format, the FBT format is one of the formats read by MBsystem.

However, based on the explanation provided by the Oceanology group, I could read this XTF format (from Imagenex) with MIPS, the USGS software. I need some time to create my own routines to deal with this program, given it works by commands (like Seismic Unix, Sioseis, etc). If you're interested, I can make available one sample of this XTF imagenex, please let me know.

Thank you again for your support.

Thanks, Gery....by all means let Robert know what you discover. Robert is the guru of software and also the keeper of the files here on this site, anything you find that enhances the ability of the HB data is of interest to him.....
Keep in touch with this.  You seem to be on track with the next step..
