Title: 1197c transducer placement

Looking for advice on transducer placement for my 1197c. My Ranger 619 originally had a glassed in thru hull for 2D returns, I believe that transducer went bad as I lost my 2D sonar towards end of last season.

I purchased a new XHS 9 HDSI 180T , my plan is to run my 2D/sonar and SI/DI with this one. My thought is I will have to move it down further than the original position to achieve this. My question is will I be able to get higher speed 2D sonar returns by moving the HDSI down and use just this HDSI transducer and no thru hull? Location of the thru hull is impossible to get at with removing several bilge pumps and or the oil tank, was looking to avoid that if possible.

My other thought was to place a XFM 9 20 flush mount 2D transducer in the back step area where my oil reserve tank is located (easier access) ? There’s an old flush mount temp sensor located there now that I thought I could replace with the XFM 9 20? Any advice on either of those ideas would be appreciated before I start drilling any holes..[attachurl=1]

Getting the "brick shaped" SI xducer to give high speed depth readings is possible (but finicky)  ...

Be mindful of the actual waterline coming off the hull while up on pad  ...

The xducer face must be below this waterline  ...

Some guys opt for the XP 9 20 epoxied in hull and the 9 M SIDB Y cable for high speed depth readings  ...
