Title: Re: Saving Data 998c SI
Post by: AnglerDon on July 17, 2010, 10:00:30 AM
I also bought DrDepth to go along with my new finder but  am having some difficulty figuring out what data to save. I found out that son1 is the 200 kHz so that was good.
What I was doing is go to a spot  I want to record, hit record button and it would save that to the SD Card but I never did tell it to save any other data and was wondering if I should of saved more, as I want to do 3D modeling of the bottom structure?

After I finished and transered the data from the SD card to my computer. I tried to delete all recordings and clear the tracks as I wanted to start fresh again. But noticed that the bread crumb trail remained. Should I restore the default to the finder to bring it back to a fresh state?

When ever you record, you are recording all the data coming in to the unit.  The only thing that does not record is the temperature.

I will let some others who know more fill you in on DrDepth, but I think it will import the files you need directly.

Good Luck,

Thanks Robert, should I restore defaults to return the unit to orginal state?

No, thats only if you are updating the unit.

The tracks are stored on the unit and are independent of the recorded data stored on the SD card.  The tracks are not needed for Dr. Depth to do it's thing.  Everything you need is in the data files on the SD card.  Under the 'NAV' menu item on the unit, go to 'Current Track' and right click the 4-way, select either 'SAVE' or 'CLEAR'.

Sometimes it is not a bad idea to save the track.  If you are collecting data in an adjacent area you can pull up the saved track so you do not get a lot of overlap.

One tip is to use the trolling grid when you are collecting data.  You can zoom in/out to get the desired spacing of the tracks then just follow the grid.  If you want very good data follow the grid both horizontal and vertical.  Otherwise pick on or the other and record away.  You will still get a good map.

Thanks Ed, the reason I wanted to delete every thing and start fresh was I changed a bunch of settings trying to figure out why my recordings were not working. Then found out it was a glitch in the software and not my recordings at all. So wanted to reset it back and start fresh.
Not a big deal, just means I will play and learn.
Now that my Dr.depth is working man is that cool.
