BOOTSTRAP MODE
« on: May 15, 2012, 07:42:48 PM »
Hi Guy's
I think I have created a problem fore myself.
It started as follows
In Humminbird PC I imported a GPX filewith a track I created in Google Earth.
I then uploaded the track to my SD card.
I put the card into my 798 it asked if I wanted to upload the file I said Yes. It said Upload Successfull.
After that every time I selected to enter the waypoint track managment the 798 would reboot.
I tried removing the card and resetting the 798 to default settings which made no difference.
I figured the track file I tried to use was corrupt in some way.
Unable to enter waypoint and track management to delete the track I started looking for other ways.
I could not update the software as I am already using the latest version.
I read on this forum about Bootstrap mode reset and thought I wood give it a go.
I am now in bootstrap mode every time I turn on the 798 and cant get out of it.
I dont have a PC conection cable.
Can anyone help with what next?

Paul

What you could do is:
a) Download an older version of the software to an SD card.  Make sure that .bin
file is the only thing on the card.
b) With your machine off, put the SD card (with the old version) in your machine
and turn the machine on.
Answer Yes to do you want to replace, and No to do you want to abort.
c) If your system comes back.  Export all your NAV data to an SD card for
backup.
d) Download the newest version of the software and put it on an SD card, and
make sure it's the only .bin file on the card.
e) Re-boot your machine, set unit back to default, place the SD card with the newest update
in, answer the questions the same way, reset unit back to default.
f) Bring your NAV data (on the SD card) into HumminbirdPC and look through it, delete duplicates, and see if everything has valld coordinates.
g) Try and get the google earch tracks into your DATA.HWR file using HumminbirdPC or
maybe some other type of conversion software.
h) When you are sure that your NAV data on the SD card is fixed, then delete all
NAV data from your unit.
i) Put the SD card in with your modified NAV data and let it load back into your
machine.

Good Luck

You'll find the 798c downloads here:
http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?action=downloads;cat=7

Just put an SD card in your PC, and click on the appropriate download, and
save to the appropriate drive where your SD reader is installed.

If you have an SD card with a software update on it in the machine,
it should read this automatically when the system boots up.

If this is not happening, then search this site for "BOOTSTRAP" and you'll
find posts on how to do an update from the BOOTSTRAP mode.

Good Luck
