Title: Humminbird At Boat Show (For Greg)
Post by: Bayou Basser on May 14, 2014, 07:26:28 PM
Letsinger Marine in Monroe, LA is hosting a boat show this weekend and the Humminbird Trailer is going to be here.  Are you scheduled to be here with it?  Also, is there a current update to the 899 unit and if so how should I prepare my unit for the upgrade.

Thanks

No, I work at the factory here in Eufaula, AL. and have not worked a boat show in many years.  I don’t know who will be there as this may be through a Rep Group.

There is always a current update for each unit but I don’t know if you already have it in your 899 unit or not.  You will have to check and see what version software is currently loaded into your unit by looking at the Self Test/System Status View.  The last update for the 899 units was 6.940 which was released last month (April).  I would copy all of my Nav Data and save it on my computer before updating (just in case something goes wrong you will not lose your waypoints, routes and tracks) and then reset all the menus to the factory defaults before actually performing the update.  Be sure you have a stable power supply to run the battery off of while you are doing the update.  The boat works well for this as long as you have a good battery and good electrical connections but you have to resist the urge to flip switches or work on the boat while updating the unit or bad things can happen – just don’t ask how I know this…  ::)
