I performed some tests with 2D sonar transducers with my 1197c.

2D transducers tested.
_ XHS 9 HDSI 180 T (2D only - 83 kHz / 200 kHz)
_ XnT 9 20 T (83 kHz / 200 kHz)
_ Airmar P66 (50 kHz / 200 kHz)
_ Garmin 010-10272-00 (50 kHz / 200 kHz)

Depth of the place: 10 to 40 meters (32 '- 130') Saltwater
.
The transducer had the best performance in 2D testing was Garmin 010-10272-00 model that has the piezoelectric crystal with larger diameter compared to the other transducers tested.

The following images:
_ Wiring diagram of the transducer Garmin.
_ Transducer setup menu of the 1197c.
_ Testing operation 1197c w/ transducer Garmin versus Furuno FVC-620.

Disclaimer: I can't guarantee there is no risk for damaging a unit. Anyone who tries this must do it at his/her own risk.

Very interesting Carlos.
Thanks for posting.

I'm curious to how the Airmar did.
Was it a close second?

Airmar transducers are supposed to be the sh@t.

Hello Carlos,
I am a newbie to the forum.  Any help would be appreciated :)

I am looking to add the same Airmar transducer as shown above for the 2D on my 981cx without Side Imaging Transducer or my 931c. do you think that your Interfacing with 1197c could be also functional with HB 981c or 931c. is it the same Transducer PIN Connection as schown above? Did you use only the PIN N5 and N4 without thermistor TEMP-PIN?

Regards,
Fred

I'm not sure if Carlos still frequents the forum as that post was from 2012  ...

I can tell you that the pin configuration from the HB "house shaped" xducer connector is still the same for all past and present HB xducers  ...

And a note about the temp channel in the HB pin configuration  ...: upon startup the HB head unit Pings the temp channel as a notifier that there is indeed a xducer connected  ... Booting the unit with no recognized xducer attached will force the unit to boot into Simulator mode  ... This can be bypassed during boot-up by pressing the Menu button as soon as the HB logo screen appears during boot-up  ... Then choose "Normal" mode from the popup window  ...

Also a note about HB Sonar transmitters  ...: because there is no XID function of what xducer is attached (in the HB core units) - selection of transmitters used (and frequencies transmitted)  for all Sonar channels are determined by the manual selection of the "Connected Transducer" Menu under the Sonar tab  ...

Meaning : the HB unit will transmit the frequencies selected (by the "Connected Transducer" Menu) thru the wire channel to any piezo connected to the other end of the wire channel - regardless if it's a HB xducer, Airmar xducer, etc  ...

Now quality of the resulting Sonar data will be purely Subjective until tested  ...

Hi Fred

At the time (2012), I tested several 200 to 1000 watt 2D transducers (50 / 200Khz) with my lovely old Humminbird 1197c.
I never had problems and I connected the thermistor wires to measure the water temperature.
Humminbird uses in its transducer 10K ohms thermistors at 25ºC / 77ºF that are common in most transducers in the market.

Any doubt I am available.
Thanks

Carlos

Hi Rickie

I will not leave this forum ..... only if I get kicked out.  ;D ;D ;D
I continue with my Humminbirds, in February 2019 I bought the new HELIX 10 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N.
I love my Humminbirds and I am very happy with them.

Thanks
Carlos

Hello everyone,
Thank you for your prompt action. It’s greatly appreciated.

I'm gonna also start randomly testing an old Autohelm xducer similar to Airmar P19 2 Pins-Connection (Positiv and Negativ DEPTH).
I'm wondering whether it's possible to connect it to my lovely 931c since it has olny a 200 kHz  with a 14° beamwidth and a Power rating of 375 W. Anywhere I will give it try.

Did anybody know which differences exist between airmar P19 with 2 Pins and Humminbird XFM 9 20 Plastic thru Hull Transducer with +/- depth and bare wire

again thank you very much

HB core units use common ground (center pin) for all channels in the house shaped xducer connector  ...

Quality of results are unknown  ... unless someone has actually tested your exact intended Setup  ...

Please post results when you get a chance  ...

Hi Fred

I look forward to your test results, I myself would be afraid to destroy my device.

Bin gespannt auf deine Testresultate, ich selber hätte Angst mir dabei mein Gerät zu zerstören.
