1197 and 360 scan
« on: February 23, 2012, 04:43:03 PM »
I see that 5.840 supports ethernet for the 1197, but with the announcement today for the 360 scan will this work on the 1197 or will other software have to be installed?

No currently it requires an Ethernet-ready, Side Imaging®-equipped Humminbird.  Currently it is compatible with: 798c, 898c, 998c, 1198c units.

First look, I am trying to figure how it would be beneficial, do not think it would be for me.

From the Cabela's ad:
Requires an Ethernet-ready, Side Imaging®-equipped Humminbird fish finder (not included). Older side imaging units will need a software update.I did not see any reference to this on the HB page..Only from Cabela's...

Same here George,  I dont think think this is as good as sector scan for our purposes. I seem to hear in the release that it is for fishing....

It is targeted for the fishing marketplace guys.

Right now no units will work with this accessory without a software update.  Only the current Si model units that have Ethernet capability (798ci HD Si,  898c Si,  998c Si,  and 1198c Si) were listed to work with the 360 Imaging accessory.  I have heard though that when things settle back down that they will look at the 1197c Si unit again to see if it can be made (through a software update) to work with the 360 Imaging or not.  Just my guess: we may not know this until the fall of the year or possibly later.

Why does the HB ad on Cabela say software upgrades for other units.  Is there upgrades or not.
If plans on fall upgrades are planned or being considered then say that.
The statement is confusing on the ad.

What “ad” Chuck?  Are you talking about the sales page on the Cabela’s web site?  If so do I need to point out to you that this is Cabela’s web site and not Humminbird’s web site?  We do not control what anyone else places on their web sites.  I agree that the statement is confusing but I don’t expect that anyone here can do anything about it.

As I stated above: once things calm down the 1197c Si units will be looked at again to see if they can use this accessory – no guarantees here; just that they will look into the possibility.  The same thing happened when we added the Di sonar capability to the 797 units: initially it was thought that they would not be able to have this feature but after things calmed down and a more in depth look was taken there was a way found for them to receive this feature.

You will have to face it at some point in time guys: your Humminbird (fill in the model name here) unit will not be able to work with all of the new features, functions and accessories that we will come out with in the future.  That’s electronics.

yes it is the cabela ad but appears to be HB written....If HB did not write then they need to censor the ad...we get led to believing something in print,    Oh no...i forgot to read the fine print..
I can understand a product growing old but the 1197 did before it grew a beard..

I doubt Humminbird has much control over Cabela's, and I doubt they wrote the copy on that page.

If HB did have some control over Cabela's you can be your last dollar that they would not have allowed them to have that page up and running prior to the official announcement...and it was there - I saw it with my own eyes.

I'd have to say that this is not an HB problem, rather that it is a problem with Cabela's.  If you'd like to see it changed, contacting them is probably the best option.

An email was sent right after the announcement and the postings.  They have not responded back.  Phone call is next...

Yeah...Cabela's as fallen a long way since they went public.

I remember back when I could go into the Gun Libraries and look at guns for hours, scheming about how I could find a way to buy this gun or that...

I have seen precisely three shotguns I'd even consider buying in the gun libraries in the past two years.....and the way the lack of knowledge at one of the stores when going there (with a call in advance to let them know I was on the way) to deal on some Spanish SxSs was pathetic....

It will be interesting to see where the finger points next.  I just hope it is not pointing up...

Greg,
We do appreciate your efforts to try and make sense of the new 360 transducer and what has been written on various sites, and what it is compatible with.  This is causing a lot of anxiety
with owners of legacy machines.

Please try and understand from the point of view of 1197c owners.
I have a unit that works perfectly, that doesn't have that many hours on it.

I don't know if I would purchase the 360 transducer or not, but I would like
to have the choice to do so, if at all possible.

I do understand that eventually my unit will be totally obsolete, and I will have
to upgrade.

But, from what I have read, there is not that much difference between the 1198, and 1197 units.

These units are extremely expensive.
I'd rather shell out 2 grand to keep up with technology, rather
than 5 grand for a complete package to use the new technology.

I'm just asking you and Humminbird to try and look at this from the perspective of users with older high-end systems.  We'd rather not have to replace a good working 1197 unless it's absolutely necessary.

I'm sure we would all really appreciate it, if your engineers could find a way to use the 360 with
the 1197s.  I know this will take some time, and I for one am not in that much of a hurry.
I'd say take your time, test things, and make sure it's right.

Thanks for your efforts Greg.

No it is not zeebeest.  The 1197 just does not have a fast enough Ethernet connection to support the 360 Imaging accessories.
