Title: PNG format
Post by: cdgreentn on May 13, 2010, 06:44:29 PM
If the humminbird unit saves files (snapshots) in PNG, why can't it display other PNG files?  I would like to save some map/ GE images as PNG to view on the lake.  They are aerial photos of a lake a winter pool that show the creek channels.  I don't want to geo-reference or show on the GPS screen, just view the file.

Seems like I’ve had this same discussion before but am drawing a blank now…  I don’t think that this is possible because the PNG file needs an associated DAT file for it to work correctly.  Not sure what is in the DAT file but I seem to remember trying to load some PNG images on the SD card (in the correct size) and even went so far as to rename them to the same file name as an existing PNG image on the SD card but it still did not work.  Maybe this is something one of the software gurus here could work on as a feature/function on their software program: custom images on your unit.  This would be great for loading prank images on someone’s unit!

Maybe this is why they opted not to do it.

But if they do......... let me know
I have several pictures to put on Robert's  unit;...... ;D

The unit has a set pixel display and will only show images that are exactly that size and format.  It does have to have an associated .dat file and the .dat also has a thumbnail image embeded.

It would be pretty cool if the unit would display other images, but really is not very easy to do right now.
