HI everyone.I m new to the forum and was wondering if anyone has tried the 1199 and had a problem with the side imaging being cloudy on the left side only.Tried a different transducer with no change ???

This is a common issue, and normally it has nothing to do with the unit. So make a big sigh and know that this is normally a really easy fix.

First off, post some pictures up here. We want to see the back of the boat and from the side as well (assuming that this is a transom mounted ducer)

Looks like you have quite a few birds on board so I bet you have a good idea about these units. A lot of people have an issue with the left side picking up the drain plug or the aerator screen. Sometimes the motor isnt trimmed up enough either.

I think the problem is with the unit.Just hooked up my 998 to the new transducer and it worked fine. going to call customer service Monday.

Don't really know. Sent my unit back to humminbird , hope they get it fixed &returned fast.costomer service seems to be real good.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums tdclaymc16.

If you can, try cross-testing your 1199 unit on another Humminbird Si transducer or test another Humminbird Si unit (any model) on your transducer like gbishop did.  This will let us know if the problem is in the unit or with the transducer.  If transducer, post some pictures like Rotus623 stated above in his first reply.

This is only present on the left side of the screen in side imaging screen. All other screens clear and when I unplug my transducer it goes away. The certified humminbird installer said he has seen this problem in a lot of the newer models but had no solution. This is something I need to find out about.

The 1.6ft digital depth on your display seems to indicate your xducer is not in the water...

Testing should always be performed with the xducer in the water...

Can you test on the water ...and then get some snapshots of the issue you are seeing...??

Hmmm, I was not aware that there were any “certified humminbird installers”.  Who/where was this?

Test your sonar unit in the water to see if it actually works or not.

Jones Trolling motor service in Texarkana, AR PH# 870-773-3474 I could of installed it myself if I would of known I would be left to do all this myself. Well I have uninstalled the unit and sent it and the transducer back. The installer did say that the new models are having this screen problem why he didn't contact Humminbird for a solution I don't know but I emailed Humminbird the info a day before the install was completed and gave them the installers name and info.

TD Clay,
Your unit should be on the way back to you.  It was boat tested along with your transducer and a problem was identified and fixed.  They are replacing your transducer too due to the connector being cut.  I didn’t get to see it (was making rounds when they called) but they were concerned that it would not stay in the connector collector correctly and so went ahead and replaced it.  Should be there is a few days.

Thanks for the info Greg. I am not sure why the dealer I bought the unit from would cut that cord when he installed it but I did notice the pins were exposed on that one side. I just thought the plug might of been changed. They have my email address but haven't received any emails yet about it being sent back. Thanks for all your help on this.

We aren’t sure where the damage to the connector happened but thought it best to go ahead and replace it.

Please let us know if the units are still showing the same problem or not.

Got my unit back today and water tested,still not fixed.The 800 kHz side imaging and down imaging still have some type of ghost image,998 works fine in 800 kHz on the same transducer.got a few pics. When I sent it in last week this was just on the left side now its on both.

gbishop...you mentioned the 998 on the 1199's xducer showed no issue...(this would indicate no problem with the 1199 xducer)...

Have you tried the 1199 on your 998's xducer...?? (If the fogginess still shows with this setup...the issue would have to be in the 1199 head unit)...

Yes,already tried that.Before I sent it in the cloudiness was just on the left,now it's on both sides.It makes side imaging almost useless in 800 kHz setting.

I already copied the Tech who worked on it and the Service Supervisor on this post.  We were disappointed as well as we thought it was fixed.

Called customer service today & asked about my unit. They told me they could send it back not fixed . What! I really think this problem should have been found before they were released. I like my birds but this is a real pain. Would like to know when it will be fixed.

Are you running 200/83 on the 2D........Was there heavy wave activity?

Try turning off the 83Khz and see if that helps.

tdclay...yor imaging actually looks pretty good now...

But there seems to be something on your boat to the left that the beam is reflecting off of...causing the lines parallel to the center line...most likely a jackplate or livewell screen...

Can you post pics of the back of your boat...??

It is mounted with a transducer shield and saver on a lift master. It is one inch below the sponsins in the hole that was already in the jack plate. I will have to take some new pictures my other phone took a swim and didn't last but 4 days that had the pictures on it.

I would bet that it is picking up a sonar reflection from the left side of the jackplate.  Any way that you can lower the transducer?

I don't think its going to go away it definetley not even close to hitting anything and the sonar is set at 200 it just has some kind of interference internal that I can't get rid of

An inch may not be enough to get it to clear.  Can you take the transducer off and mount it to a pole and hold it well under the boat and rotate it around.  Set the SI Range menu on your 1199 to 20 feet so that it will be easier to see the Si sonar reflections.  If it is still there than the problem is in the HDSi transducer, if it goes away than it is something physically blocking the left Si sonar beam.

We have to remember that the SI sonar beams can reflect off objects all the way to the surface of the water...(the outer reaches of the the main lobe and the side lobes travel way past the advertised SI beam angles...)...

 Thanks so much for the info... I moved it to the left side with the transducer saver L bracket turned into the jack plate and cleared the left side up now just a thin line on right side. Could anything be done to the jack plate like painting it so it's not so reflective or do I just need to buy another bracket and lower it more.

I think Transducer Shield and Saver also makes an extension for the jackplate bracket that lowers the HDSI xducer down some more into the water...

It may be possible to cover that opposing side of the jackplate with something like cork sheeting or some other sound absorbing material...but I don't know how well cork would hold up...

Have you thought about installing a hole shot plate...??

This creates an angled surface that the sound pulse "skips" off of ...instead of reflecting back to the xducer...

I went ahead and ordered the 2' inch extension plate from shield and saver. That ought to fix it. Thanks to everyone for all the help. When you spend 3 grand for your electronics you want it perfect

Hey Rick even with it this low still getting interference on left side with the 2' inch extension. I moved it to the left side with the bracket pointed to the inside of the jack plate. If this doesn't fix it I don't know what else to do. Maybe I will just have to  live with a little interference

That white line is my dads boat taking off beside me but you can still see the interference on the left in the middle.

You might think about testing the xducer by removing it from the bracket and sticking it down into the water farther...just to verify it is the jackplate left side causing this...

If it is...you can lower the xducer more with a longer extension.. (I don't know if Scap has longer extensions)...

Or you can still try a hole shot plate and then mount the HDSI in the center of it...

I think you did, indeed fix it...

It now may be reflecting a little off the right side of the jackplate...and showing in the right SI...but not noticeably bad...

It's very unlikely you will encounter target echoes in that part of the water column anyway...

I wonder when the fix for the 800 kHz washout will come? Been waiting patiently. Anyone know?

TD,

You could add another hdsi and a y cable. Mount one on each side of your jack plate.  Then you could independent left and right side imaging.
