798-series as slave (geofence?)
« on: May 17, 2013, 02:36:43 PM »
I live outside america and uses a 998cx HD SI. I'm thinking of buying a Humminbird 798 to use as slave to that unit and only show sonar data  from the 998 unit. If I buy a Humminbird 798 from america and only use that unit, i know there will be problems because that unit will be locked with geofence and I wont get meters and celcius etc, there will be a slashing warning text as well I think. But if I use it as a slave to a European unit, will there still be a problem because of the geofence and even if I only use it as a slave to only show data from the 998 unit?

The 798ci HD Si model is the only 798 model that is capable of displaying sonar data from another unit – the 798c Si and 798ci Si are not capable of this as they lack the Ethernet connection and circuitry for this.  Since you will be using a domestic model (U.S.) unit, you will only be able to select from the options that it has.  In this case you will still see water depth in feet and temperature in Fahrenheit on it.  This has nothing to do with geo-fencing as these are the only options programmed into the unit’s software.
