GPS nonexistant,
« on: July 14, 2011, 11:34:01 PM »
My new 798 shows no NAV or CHART screens available in the menus.  I go to system check and do not have the GPS satellite screen either.  What am I doing wrong?  Is there something else I need to purchase?  The unit says it is internal GPS.

Internal GPS?  Unless there is something blocking all of the signals from the GPS satellites than the GPS Receiver must not be working.  Where is the unit mounted and does the front and top of it have a clear view of the sky (do not test it while under a roof or in a garage)?
Call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about getting the unit serviced.

Contacted Humminbird, they sent me another 798 and had me ship mine to them for repair.  They were very nice and shipped it to the resort we were staying at.  The only problem is the one they sent me "freezes" once in a while.  It will only unfreeze if I take it out of its cradle and reinsert.  Now I have to send it back.

Sorry I hit the post button too soon.

Well I sent the second unit back and Humminbird updated the software.  They sent it back to me.  Now it does not have the GPS, just like the first one.  I contacted them and I am sending it back also.. This is the third time for me to send a unit in for repair.  I have owned it for a month and have not really used it yet.   Has anyone else experienced this, or am I jinxed?  Should I sell this one and upgrade to something more reliable?  What should it be?

Jinxed maybe?  ;D

I would get on the phone with them and see what they say.  They will definitely make it right!
